Hey it’s Steph, Bariatric Dietitian on FoodCoach.Me with a weekly wednesday video. I often get asked for recommendations on protein powders, but I must admit I don’t always have a brand I stick with. I usually answer with the nutrition guidelines to focus on – I prefer a whey protein isolate and I prefer it to have a least 15 grams of protein per serving and less than 6 grams of carbohydrates.

The giant tubs of whey protein at Walmart or Target fit this description, so I really don’t mind if someone choses to use it BUT I must admit, there are better tasting and better dissolving options. I’ve always liked the brand Unjury, which comes in several flavors…but lately I’ve been really enjoying Jay Robb’s Chocolate Whey Protein. It provides 25 grams of protein per serving and just 1 gram of carb. It’s made with Stevia, is non-GMO, lactose free and personally I think it dissolves well and tastes great. I mix mine with unsweetened almond milk, ice and a splash of sugar-free creme brûlée coffee syrup. I use my shaker cup and feel full for hours. I haven’t tried other flavors just yet but have seen great reviews. I’ll include a link to order below this video.

If you have a brand of protein powder you prefer, feel free to share! If it fits the basic guildelines of protein to carbohydrates, there are far more options than I can even know about.

Happy Eating!
