Bariatric Pureed Diet Recipe!

If you’re reading this post…you’re probably about the embark on a Bariatric Pureed Diet. And this is what I’d like to say…

You get to eat food again!!!!!!

Okay, I know. The Pureed Diet is NOT the most appealing of diets. In fact, in my own practice as a weight loss surgery dietitian, I don’t put my patients on a pureed diet! I’ve been able to work alongside other dietitians and surgeons to create a diet that transitions from liquids to very soft protein to a little less soft protein and then back to regular protein foods by one month post-op.

BUT, I know full well that not every bariatric surgery program approaches the diet progression in the same way. It’s incredibly important to follow your own doctors guidelines so I’ve created several recipes that are pureed in texture but focus on protein and FLAVOR! And hey! Members to FoodCoach.Me have access to pureed diet meal plans with grocery lists and recipes! Find out more about membership here.

A few notes about this recipe in particular:

I bought fresh salmon at my local grocery store (Hy-Vee for those of you in the Midwest like me) and was able to buy a small single fillet that had already been smoked and was fully cooked. I so hope you have access to this because it made this recipe so wonderfully simple.

Adding some fresh lemon juice and dill also gives this recipe a very fresh flavor – something most patients crave after the liquid diet. Adding more juice will also thin out the texture until you feel comfortable. The smoky flavor in the salmon is very powerful so if you want to take the lemon and dill, you’ll need to be generous!

As always – TAKE TINY BITES and go very slowly. Pause in between each bite and ask yourself in between every bite if you feel like you should stop. STOP there and don’t push it. Eating behaviors are key to feeling comfortable after your meals!
