In the spirit of Valentine’s Day…I would like to express love for someone I never tell I love: my body.

When we think about it, our bodies are really really amazing things.

It can brave the elements. A freezing winter like we’ve had or a blazing hot summer in Oklahoma. It craves beautifully sunshiny days and can sense the difference when it gets one. It can be hit with rain, snow or sleet and keep moving quickly to where it needs to get us. It can feel heat and know that danger is coming. It can react quickly in an emergency and make us respond fast to get to someone for help or to get out of the way. Even smaller moments when it can react to a falling object and snag it just in time.

It can walk even on the sorest of days because we finally got it to the gym the other day. It can heal quickly to a cut or a burn. When I think of all the things my body has been through, I am amazed at how healthy it is now. Only one small scar left on my body from a state of complete brokenness. Yeah…I really do love my body. I’ve never thought to tell it!

Women- we struggle so much with using words of love towards our bodies. We look in the mirror and assess and critique. We move skin around and hold it up. We squeeze belly fat or inner thighs. We move our chins up and suck our stomach in for pictures….we critique our bodies more than anything else in our lives. We critique them everyday, but we don’t tell them anything positive. We don’t wonder at their amazing abilities!

In the spirit of a day when we express love to spouses, children, friends, co-workers and neighbors don’t forget to take a moment and use words of love with you body. That it got up today! That it is getting you around your busy day. That everyone around you loves it because its YOU. If you have a hard time saying anything nice about your body, I encourage you to say the words out loud at some point today….I love my body.

The body is an amazing piece of God’s handiwork. Oh how intricate and detailed it is! Makes me want to go back and read my old anatomy and physiology book and just marvel. “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14

Happy Valentine’s Day!!
